Home Music Words About Contact Emis emis@toomanymistakes.com
Los Angeles duo Emis began as an experiment in erratically programmed percussion and improvised synth playing, and has since evolved into an electronic songsmith with a unique live act. Emis noise makers Forrest Sutton and Jesse Cooper take a largely hands-on approach to performing, using hardware controllers and custom software instruments to manipulate the most detailed elements of a piece in real-time. Therefore, no two expressions of a particular song are ever the same, and the quality of the music is highly influenced by audience participation. The debut album, as yet unnamed, is due for release in the fourth quarter of 2005. Bail (5 mb) - Percussive parts were generated by one of our incomplete and thus unreleased sample-based drum machines. Samples come from a variety of sources, most notably a Yamaha 460, circuit-bent by Dr. Rek. Non-percussive parts were generated by modified versions (to accept external modulation sources) of Synthecs (ZooTooK), Sofa (Oheim), and some crazy Frankenstein combination of a couple of other synths from the user library. Effects include the Laserbrew (Schwerdtfeger) and the Polyrythmic Delay (Durrant). Sequencing and modulation sources were handled by other incomplete homegrown instruments. Track was composed and performed on two laptops running Reaktor 4 standalone. Audio was recorded and edited via an external audio editor. |
